Mourning at Skuumu as Four Young Men Die in Galamsey Pit Collapse*

Grief and sorrow have engulfed Skuumu near Gyaman-Nkwanta in the Amansie Central District after four suspected illegal miners lost their lives in a tragic pit collapse on Wednesday afternoon.

The victims, believed to be young men searching for survival through illegal mining, were trapped underground when the galamsey pit suddenly gave way around 4:00pm.

Residents say the entire community was thrown into panic as cries for help filled the area moments after the collapse.

Information gathered indicates that the land belonged to Volta Resource, a mining company, which allegedly handed it over to illegal miners for mining operations. Meanwhile, Logist Group Company Limited had been assigned by government to reclaim the destroyed land.

Rescue teams, together with security personnel and residents, struggled for hours before an excavator was finally brought in to recover the bodies.
