“Poor Roads Are Killing Us” – Wassa Hintado/Saa Okada Riders Cry for Immediate Government Intervention in Amenfi East

Commercial motorbike riders, popularly known as Okada riders, in Wassa Hintado and Saa in the Amenfi East Municipality of the Western Region have passionately appealed to government and relevant authorities to urgently fix the deplorable roads in their communities.

According to the riders, the poor nature of the roads has become a daily nightmare, affecting transportation, business activities, healthcare access, and the safety of both riders and passengers. They say the situation worsens anytime it rains, turning the roads into muddy and dangerous paths that often lead to accidents and damage to their motorbikes.

Some of the riders lamented that they risk their lives every day just to transport residents from one community to another because vehicles can hardly use the roads. They stressed that Okada has now become the only reliable means of transport for many people in the area.
“We are suffering too much.

Poor roads are killing us slowly. Every day we struggle with broken roads, deep potholes and muddy sections. Sometimes we fall with passengers because the roads are not motorable,” one rider stated.

The riders explained that due to the terrible roads, many pregnant women, school children, traders and sick persons depend heavily on Okada services to access nearby towns and health facilities. They fear the situation could lead to more tragic incidents if urgent action is not taken.

Their concerns reflect wider road challenges repeatedly reported across the Wassa Amenfi area, where residents and leaders have complained that poor road networks are affecting transportation, farming activities, healthcare and education.

The Okada riders are therefore calling on the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Western Regional Minister, and the Amenfi East Municipal Assembly to intervene immediately by reshaping and rehabilitating the roads to reduce their suffering.

They emphasized that fixing the roads would not only improve transportation but also boost economic activities and ensure safer movement for residents within the municipality.
